Phat Pagoda

Big Buddha Pagoda, also known as Thien Vien Truc Lam on Cam Mountain, is one of the most majestic and spiritually significant Buddhist sites in the Mekong Delta, located in An Giang Province. Famous for housing one of the largest Buddha statues in Vietnam, this mountaintop pagoda attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year who come to admire the view, find peace, and experience Vietnamese Buddhist culture.

Architecture and Design

Situated on the slopes of Cam Mountain (Núi Cấm)—often called the "Roof of the Mekong Delta"—this pagoda combines modern Zen architecture with traditional Vietnamese Buddhist elements.

  • The highlight is the giant white statue of Shakyamuni Buddha (Phật Thích Ca Mâu Ni), which stands about 33.6 meters tall and can be seen from far below the mountain.

  • The main hall is built in a serene Zen style with wooden columns, curved tiled roofs, and lotus motifs.

  • Surrounding the temple are landscaped gardens, meditation paths, and natural rock formations that blend harmoniously with the mountain scenery.

The overall atmosphere is peaceful, making it ideal for quiet reflection and spiritual connection.

Religious and Cultural Significance

Big Buddha Pagoda plays a central role in Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist practice, especially in the southern region.

  • The site serves as both a meditation center and a place of worship for monks and laypeople.

  • During festivals like Vu Lan (Ghost Festival) and Buddha’s Birthday (Vesak), thousands gather here to pray, listen to Dharma talks, and release animals to earn merit.

  • The Buddha statue is a symbol of compassion, peace, and enlightenment, offering spiritual comfort to many visitors.
