Tay Thien Pagoda (Vietnamese: Chùa Tây Thiên) is one of the most famous spiritual destinations in northern Vietnam. Located on the slopes of Tam Dao Mountain, in Tam Dao District, Vinh Phuc Province, it is part of the larger Tay Thien Scenic and Historical Complex, which combines ancient Buddhist architecture with Vietnamese indigenous beliefs.

Tay Thien is not only a sacred site for Buddhist pilgrims, but also the center of worship for Mother Lang Thi Tieu, known as Quoc Mau Tay Thien – the Holy Mother of the Vietnamese people.

    Built in the early 2000s, this is one of the largest and most modern Zen monasteries in Vietnam. It belongs to the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect, founded by King Tran Nhan Tong.

  • 🛕 Tay Thien Mother Temple (Quoc Mau Tay Thien Temple)
    Located deep in the forest on the mountain, it is dedicated to the Mother of the Nation. Pilgrims must climb or take a cable car to reach the sacred site.

  • 🏞️ Scenic Natural Beauty
    The complex is surrounded by mountains, forests, streams, and waterfalls. The natural scenery creates a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

5. Tay Thien Festival

  • Held annually on the 15th day of the 2nd lunar month, the Tay Thien Festival is one of the largest spiritual festivals in northern Vietnam.

    • Ceremonial processions to honor the Holy Mother

    • Traditional games, folk music, and dancing

    • Prayers and rituals for good fortune
