1. Overview

Thích Ca Phật Đài Pagoda is one of the most famous and sacred Buddhist sites in Vũng Tàu, located on the slopes of Big Mountain (Núi Lớn). This religious complex is not only a destination for worship but also a peaceful retreat for visitors seeking tranquility and spiritual reflection.

2. Location

The pagoda is situated at 608 Trần Phú Street, Thắng Nhì Ward, Vũng Tàu City. It lies on the hillside, around 3 kilometers from the city center, offering scenic views of both the mountain and the sea.

3. Architecture and Features

Thích Ca Phật Đài is a unique Buddhist site that combines religious architecture with natural landscapes. The pagoda complex includes:

  • A large statue of Gautama Buddha (Thích Ca Mâu Ni) in a meditative posture, 6 meters high, placed on a lotus-shaped base.

  • Bodhi trees and beautifully landscaped gardens that create a calm and spiritual atmosphere.

  • A seven-tiered stupa and many smaller shrines along the stone-paved path that leads to the main statue.

  • Stone reliefs and statues that depict important scenes from the life of the Buddha.

The layout of the site allows visitors to walk gradually uphill, reflecting quietly while learning about Buddhism through its artwork.

4. Historical Significance

The pagoda was built in the mid-20th century, and since then, it has become an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists across Vietnam. The presence of a Bodhi tree, believed to be a descendant of the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, adds to its sacredness.

5. How to Visit

Visitors can reach Thích Ca Phật Đài by motorbike or taxi from downtown Vũng Tàu. The entrance is free, but it is recommended to dress modestly and behave respectfully, as this is an active place of worship.

The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.
