Historical Background

Established in the late 19th to early 20th century during the Nguyễn Dynasty, Tùng Lâm Pagoda was initially a small shrine constructed by Vietnamese merchants and boat owners from Kẻ Chợ (now Hanoi) and other regions. These individuals built the shrine to pray for safety during their river journeys. In 1900, with the efforts of Tran Gia Du, the shrine was expanded into a more substantial pagoda, and the first monk took residence.
